Vettel: "Gebruikte banden bieden bijna geen grip"

De overheersende mening over de terugkeer van slicks is positief. Red Bull Racing-rijder Sebastien Vettel durft echter een kanttekening te plaatsen. De slijtage en het daarmee gepaard gaande verlies aan grip van het ongegroefde rubber is enorm, zo merkte hij in Jerez.

Tegenover Auto Motor und Sport zegt Vettel: In Bahrein zie je ook dat iedereen zijn snelste tijd in de tweede of derde ronde van een run, of helemaal aan het eind als de lichte auto het gripverlies compenseert, neerzet.

In Jerez is dat niet mogelijk. Daar is de aftakeling van de banden gewoonweg te groot voor. Als je daar voor de tweede keer met dezelfde banden naar buiten gaat, dan bieden ze bijna geen grip meer. Je kan op gebruikte banden nooit het tempo van nieuwe slicks benaderen.
