Briatore nuanceert dreigementen Renault over terugtrekking

Eerder deze week liet Renault weten dat het de mogelijkheid openhoudt om in 2012 te stoppen met Formule 1 wanneer de kosten en inkomstenverdeling onveranderd blijven. Vandaag werden deze uitspraken echter flink genuanceerd door teambaas Flavio Briatore. Vanaf mijn eerste dag bij Renault was ik al bezorgd om de kosten in deze sport, zegt de Italiaan. Wat er met de FOTA is afgesproken is precies wat Renault wil bereiken.

De Italiaan deed zijn uitspraken op een persconferentie van de FOTA-bijeenkomst in Genève op donderdag. Hier liet hij doorschemeren dat een mogelijk vertrek van de Franse constructeur uit het wereldkampioenschap Formule 1 niet aan de orde is. We hebben immers de steun van Renault-president Carlos Ghosn. Indien de Formule 1 efficiënter met haar middelen omgaat, zoals nu het plan is, dan blijven we in elk geval tot 2012 meedoen.
