Sheares, Memorial en Singapore Sling nieuwe bochtennamen

De organisatie van de Grand Prix van Singapore heeft drie nieuwe bochtennamen bekendgemaakt. De fans mochten de namen verzinnen en uit 1.400 inzendingen heeft een jury nu drie nieuwe namen voor bochten 1, 7 en 10 gekozen.

Bocht 1 gaat voortaan door het leven als Sheares, vernoemd naar de Benjamin Sheares-brug waar het circuit onderdoor loopt. Bocht 7 heet vanaf nu Memorial vanwege het nabij gelegen monument ter ere van de slachtoffers van de Tweede Wereldoorlog. En bocht 10 krijgt de naam Singapore Sling.

Simon Rock, een van de juryleden, legt die laatste naam uit in de krant Today: Het zegt veel over de bocht. Coureurs moeten daar voorzichtig de goede lijn pakken, maar als ze dat doen kan de bocht werken als katalysator voor een snelle rondetijd.
