Kans op comeback Cosworth groeit door budgetlimiet

Cosworth keert volgend jaar wellicht als motorenleverancier terug in de Formule 1. Dat meldt GrandPrix.com. In 2010 gaat mogelijk een optioneel budgetlimiet van kracht en dat zou voor extra teams kunnen zorgen. Bernie Ecclestone spreekt zelf al van dertien renstallen.

De grote fabrikanten zijn echter geen voorstander van een budgetlimiet en zouden daarom weigeren om motoren voor schappelijke prijzen aan te bieden aan teams die zich daar wel aan willen houden. Daardoor is Cosworth nu weer in beeld.

De internationale autosportbond FIA wees Cosworth vorig jaar al aan als leverancier van goedkope motoren, maar geen van de teams ging daar tot nu toe op in. Door het budgetlimiet van 33 miljoen euro dat vanaf 2010 in kan gaan, groeit de kans dat privéteams nu wel naar Cosworth gaan kijken.
