Red Bull Racing onderhandelt met Mercedes voor motoren

Het team van Red Bull Racing heeft geen haast om het contract met motorenleverancier Renault te verlengen. De Oostenrijkse renstal onderhandelt met Mercedes over een samenwerking, zo onthult Autosport. Teambaas Christian Horner sluit echter niet uit dat zijn team doorgaat met de krachtbronnen van Renault.

Het is nog veel te vroeg om over de motoren voor volgend jaar te praten, begint Horner. Hopelijk is Renault er dan nog. De motor presteert goed en na de toegestane aanpassingen eind vorig jaar is de Renault V8 vergelijkbaar met andere krachtbronnen. Mercedes levert momenteel waarschijnlijk nog de sterkste motor, maar de Renault geeft niet veel toe.

Mercedes levert momenteel al motoren aan drie teams. De Duitse autofabrikant sluit uit dat het meer renstallen van krachtbronnen gaat voorzien. McLaren en Force India hebben een stevige verbintenis en dus lijkt Red Bull Racing te azen op de plek van Brawn GP. Horner heeft geen haast: Zoals Brawn GP heeft bewezen, je kan op het laatste moment nog van motorenleverancier wisselen. De blokken zijn vrij simpel tegenwoordig.
