Niki Lauda wil astronaut worden

Oud Formule 1-coureur en meervoudig wereldkampioen Niki Lauda wil astronaut worden. De Oostenrijker heeft een contract getekend met Virgin Galactic, het project van Richard Branson gericht op ruimtetoerisme.

De logo's van Virgin Galactic zijn sinds dit weekend ook op de wagens van Brawn GP te zien. Brawn GP-coureur Rubens Barrichello heeft een ticket gekocht om naar de ruimte te gaan. Branson: "Rubens heeft een ticket gekocht om een keer mee te gaan naar de ruimte. Niki gaat zichzelf trainen en voorbereiden om straks als astronaut mensen naar de ruimte te brengen."

Lauda, die al jaren professioneel vlieger is, wil graag naar de ruimte. Lauda vertelt: "Ik vlieg al jaren professioneel als piloot. Ik vlieg Boeings, Airbussen, en mijn enige droom is nog om een space shuttle te vliegen."
