Heikki Kovalainen gaat niet bij de pakken neerzitten

Heikki Kovalainen heeft een weinig gelukkige seizoensstart achter de rug. De McLaren-coureur viel niet alleen een paar keer buiten zijn schuld om uit, de Fin kwam ook regelmatig flink tekort ten opzichte van teamgenoot Lewis Hamilton. Alle teleurstellingen hebben nog geen sporen achtergelaten op zijn motivatie.

Kovalainen meldde tegenover Autosport: Ik ga niet bij de pakken neerzitten. Hier bouw je wel weerstand door op. Het is zaak om de moed niet te verliezen, me sterk houden en de motivatie en focus vasthouden. Als je die dingen kwijtraakt en je gaat zielig zitten wezen, dan ben je verloren. Het enige dat we kunnen doen is wat geweest is achter ons laten en onze best doen om terug te knokken.

Te beginnen in Monaco, waarvoor McLaren weer enkele updates heeft. Ik kijk uit naar die race. We hebben al stappen voorwaarts gezet en dat is bemoedigend. Nu zijn we in afwachting van de volgende upgrade en dat helpt ook bij de motivatie. Ik geef niet op en schrijf het seizoen niet af. Ik wil goede resultaten behalen en ik geloof in onze kansen. We hoeven nergens bang voor te zijn.
