McLaren meet zich rol van vredestichter aan in rel tussen FIA en FOTA

McLaren ziet voor zichzelf een belangrijke rol weggelegd in de ruzie tussen de internationale autosportbond FIA en de teams verenigd in FOTA over de invoering van een budgetlimiet. De Britse renstal probeerde de afgelopen weken beide partijen dichter bij elkaar te brengen. McLaren-teambaas Martin Whitmarsh: We voelen ons verantwoordelijk voor de rol van vredestichter en proberen te helpen om beide kampen tot een overeenkomst te laten komen.

Hij vervolgt: De Formule 1 is onze voornaamste activiteit en ik hoop dat als je langs andere teams gaat en vraagt naar de rol van McLaren, dat ze zeggen dat we een constructieve en verzoenende bijdrage hebben geleverd. Dat zien we zelf in elk geval als onze rol. We zitten midden in het proces van de budgetlimieten. Grote teams en autofabrikanten worstelen met het idee dat ze kleiner moeten worden, kleine teams proberen te overleven en wij begrijpen beide verhalen.

En het is een grote uitdaging om het businessmodel van Toyota en dat van Scuderia Toro Rosso bij op elkaar af te stemmen. Ik hoop dat we dat begrijpen en ik geloof dat wij en Mercedes-Benz constructief bij hebben gedragen en nog steeds doen. Dat proberen we althans.
