Verstappen: "De wil om te winnen is er absoluut"

Jos Verstappen maakt zich op voor zijn tweede deelname aan de 24 uur van Le Mans. De Nederlander vormt samen met Anthony Davidson en Darren Turner een trio in een Lola-Aston Martin. Tijdens de test op Monza was Verstappen snel, maar crashte de Le Mans Series LMP2-kampioen van vorig jaar ook zwaar.

Op zijn site zegt hij daar over: Nou, in de week na de crash op Monza heb ik flink veel last gehad van mijn nek en rug. Alles zat vast. Dat is nu gelukkig zo goed als over. De auto is weer opgebouwd door het team. Er was meer kapot dan op het eerste gezicht te zien was, er zat zelfs een scheur in de monocoque.

Dit jaar komt Verstappen uit in de LMP1-klasse. Samen met Anthony Davidson en Darren Turner hebben we een sterk rijderstrio. De wil om te winnen is er absoluut. Meer dan ons uiterste best kunnen we niet doen maar ik denk eerlijk gezegd niet dat we met onze benzineauto tegen de diesels op kunnen. Maar je weet het natuurlijk nooit in een race die 24 uur duurt. Na de trainingen op woensdag weten we meer.

Morgen hebben de vrije trainingen plaats, donderdag volgt de kwalificatie en zaterdag wordt het startschot gegeven voor de 24 uur van Le Mans van dit jaar. Kijk voor meer informatie op www.verstappen.nl.
