Superleague Formula introduceert nieuwe opzet met weekendfinale

Het tweede Superleague Formula-seizoen gaat in het laatste weekend van juni van start op het circuit van Magny-Cours. De organisatie heeft anderhalve week voor het begin van de nieuwe jaargang de regels nog aangepast. De twee races van 45 minuten met een omgedraaide startopstelling in de tweede race blijven gehandhaafd en krijgen gezelschap van een derde race, een grote finale, waarin zes coureurs uitmaken wie tot winnaar van het weekend wordt gekroond.

De top drie uit de twee gewone wedstrijden vormen de deelnemers voor de finale. Daarin zijn geen punten, maar wel geld te verdienen. Superleague Formula-competitiedirecteur Robin Webb: De fans hebben goed gereageerd op ons raceformat. Vooral de omgedraaide grid voor race 2 viel in goede aarde, want dat levert mooie gevechten met naar voren rijdende snellere coureurs op. Maar hoewel deze structuur vaak twee verschillende winnaar oplevert, een algehele winnaar blijft onbekend. Deze shoot-out met zes autos zorgt niet alleen voor een overallwinnaar, maar is voor de toeschouwers en televisiekijkers ook een spectaculaire afronding van het weekend.

De grote finale gaat in vier van de zes weekenden gelden, alleen op Zolder en Monza bepalen het aantal punten in beide gewone races wie als weekendwinnaar naar huis gaat. De organisatie maakte tevens het deelnemersveld bekend. Sevilla, Borussia Dortmund, Beijing Guoan en Al-Ain zijn niet meer van de partij, nieuwkomers Olympique Lyon, Sporting Lissabon en FC Midtjylland zorgen voor een startveld van zeventien autos.

geweldig...vraag me alleen wel af waarom 4 teams zich terug hebben getrokken...waaronder de winnaar van vorig jaar...
