Briatore: "Tijd voor een overeenkomst is verstreken"

De teams verenigd in FOTA presenteren zich vastberaden om een eigen serie te starten. De president van de internationale autosportbond FIA, Max Mosley, blijft hoopvol gestemd over een oplossing, maar de renstallen bereiden zich al voor op een eigen kampioenschap. Renault-teambaas Flavio Briatore: De tijd voor een overeenkomst is verstreken.

De Italiaan vervolgt: We hebben geprobeerd een compromis te sluiten, we hebben de deur open gezet, alles hebben we geprobeerd. De deur is in ons gezicht dicht geslagen. Dit is geen besluit van de FOTA, maar van de hele Europese fabrikantenbond ACEA. Dit is hun standpunt, zo simpel is het.

Ik zie mezelf als FOTA, ik geloof in de FOTA. De FOTA is sterk. Wij willen een kampioenschap met daarin de beste teams, de beste coureurs en mensen werkzaam die Formule 1-waardig zijn en niet van GP3 of GP4-niveau. We willen echte teams, geen lege hulzen. Tot nu toe zie ik trouwens nog geen deelnemerslijst van de FIA, ik ben wel benieuwd naar die lijst.
