Ondanks de goede bedoelingen van de internationale autosportbond FIA hebben de nieuwe reglementen er niet voor gezorgd dat inhalen in de Formule 1 dit jaar significant makkelijker is geworden. Ook in Silverstone vielen niet veel passeeracties te noteren. Sam Michael, technisch directeur van Williams, wil daar wat aan doen.

Nico Rosberg was soms wel een halve seconde sneller dan zijn voorliggers, maar hij kwam ze zelfs dan niet voorbij. En dat waren autos zonder KERS, dus we hebben nog genoeg werk aan de winkel. Het gaat misschien iets beter dan vorig jaar, maar we moeten er aandacht aan blijven besteden. Dit is een probleem dat niet makkelijk op te lossen is.

Tegelijkertijd willen de fans namelijk ook de snelste autos met de beste technologie te zien krijgen. Ze komen niet alleen naar races om inhaalacties te zien. Dat wijzen diverse studies van de FIA en de FOTA uit. Als ze alleen inhaalacties willen zien, dan zouden ze wel met zijn allen langs de kant van een kartbaan gaan staan, aldus Michael.
