Ecclestone over uitspraken: "Het is een groot misverstand"

Bernie Ecclestone heeft de verontwaardiging over zijn uitspraken in een interview met The Times afgedaan als een misverstand. Joodse groeperingen veroordeelden zijn schijnbare verdediging van Adolf Hitler en de roep om het pensioen van de commerciële baas van de Formule 1 klinkt steeds luider.

Ecclestone reageerde tegenover Bild met: Dit alles is een groot misverstand. In het interview spraken we over structuren en dat het soms goed kan zijn om zonder aarzeling sterke beslissingen te nemen. Ik gebruikte Hitler niet als positief voorbeeld, maar benadrukte alleen maar dat hij voor zijn gruweldaden wel succesvol de werkloosheid en economische problemen had aangepakt.

Het was nooit mijn bedoeling om iemand of een bepaalde groepering pijn te doen. Veel van mijn beste vrienden zijn Joods. Iedereen die mij kent weet dat ik nooit een minderheid zou aanvallen.
