Ari Vatanen baalt van steun Mosley voor Jean Todt

Ari Vatanen krijgt in Jean Todt een geduchte tegenstander in de verkiezingsstrijd voor de positie van voorzitter van de internationale autosportbond FIA. Daar doet Vatanen niet moeilijk over. Wat hij wel erg vindt is dat de huidige president Max Mosley openlijk zijn voorkeur uitsprak voor Todt.

Vatanen in de Spaanse krant AS: Ik heb vaak kritiek geuit op de FIA, maar nooit op Mosley persoonlijk. Maar het is niet goed als een leider voor een lange periode op zijn positie blijft. Dan is verandering nodig. En ik representeer die verandering, een nieuw en fris tijdperk.

Jean Todt daarentegen vertegenwoordigt het oude tijdperk. Het is niet goed dat Max zijn positie en macht gebruikt om een nieuwe leider op te dringen. De FIA is geen koninkrijk, het is een republiek waarin de leiders democratisch gekozen worden.

Bij Ferrari willen ze Todt niet als nieuwe FIA-president, dat hebben ze me verteld. Ze denken dat de sport dan geloofwaardigheid verliest. Hetzelfde zou gebeuren als Ross Brawn of Flavio Briatore het presidentschap op zich nemen. De FIA hoort een neutrale leider te hebben.
