Sauber: "BMW stelde te hoge eisen voor verkoop team"

Peter Sauber heeft een poging ondernomen om het BMW Sauber-team over te nemen van het uit de Formule 1 vertrekkende BMW. De onderhandelingen zijn echter stuk gelopen op de eisen van de Duitse autofabrikant. Dat verklaarde Sauber tegenover Autosport.

Na de aankondiging van BMW dat ze de Formule 1 verlaten heb ik geprobeerd om het team over te nemen en te redden, begint de Zwitser. De onderhandelingen zijn mislukt vanwege de hoge eisen die BMW stelde. Consequentie daarvan is dat we het Concorde Agreement niet hebben getekend en dat zou een garantie voor miljoenen euros en de toekomst van het team zijn.

Ik ben zeer teleurgesteld en ontroostbaar. Dit is de meest bittere dag uit mijn veertig jaar in de autosport. Het is een verschrikkelijke terugslag voor het team. Nu moet er naar andere oplossingen worden gezocht. De verantwoordelijkheid daarvoor ligt bij BMW. Onnodig om te zeggen dat ik bereid ben om daarbij te helpen.
