Barrichello kan zijn geluk niet op met overwinning

Rubens Barrichello zegt dat hij nooit de overwinning die hij vandaag boekte in Valencia zal vergeten. De Braziliaan won voor het eerst sinds 81 races, bijna vijf jaar na zijn laatste overwinning in China 2004. Barrichello stijgt dankzij zijn overwinning naar de tweede plaats in het kampioenschap, 18 punten achter teamgenoot Jenson Button.

Het was fantastisch, begint Barrichello. Het was een fantastisch weekend dat ik nooit zal vergeten. Na bijna vijf jaar zonder overwinning vergeet je niet hoe het voelt om te winnen.

Het was een zware race. Ik moest constant druk houden. Tijdens de race zei ik gewoon constant tegen mezelf: Kom op Rubens! Doe het voor jezelf, je land, je team en je familie. De auto was perfect en ik moet het team bedanken. Ik zou graag willen dat ik dit gevoel voor altijd kon houden, aldus Barrichello.

De Brawn GP-coureur reed vooral een sterk tweede deel van de race, waarin hij de koppositie overnam van regerend wereldkampioen Lewis Hamilton.

Het was geweldig. Ik ging elke ronde tot het uiterste. Toen ik nog achter Hamilton reed wist ik niet wie er sneller was, maar toen hij naar binnen ging had ik vrij baan. Ik was sneller. Mijn ronde tijden waren zeer goed. Ik wil iedereen die mij heeft gesteund bedanken. Ik ben zo gelukkig, besluit de Braziliaan.

Barrichello is na Button, Vettel, Webber en Hamilton de vijfde Grand Prix-winnaar dit seizoen.
