Gebrek aan ambitie bij Toro Rosso leidde vertrek Berger in

Gerhard Berger nam geen vrede met een rol in de marge voor zijn team Scuderia Toro Rosso en verliet daarom aan het einde van vorig seizoen de Italiaanse renstal. Dat vertouwde de oud Formule 1-coureur aan Sport Bild toe.

Berger wilde hoe dan ook een rol van betekenis spelen, terwijl moederbedrijf Red Bull slechts een opleidingsrol in gedachten had voor Toro Rosso. Ik betreur mijn besluit niet. Red Bull wilde Toro Rosso als juniorteam, ik wilde per se races winnen. Met Sebastian Vettel lukte dat, maar vervolgens probeerde Red Bull ons weer in de opleidingsrol te drukken. Dat is niet mijn filosofie.
