Vatanen: "De Formule 1 is een wanorde, ze zullen mij vrezen"

Ari Vatanen vindt dat de Formule 1-wereld rijp is voor verandering en hij schuwt geen maatregelen om dat teweeg te brengen. Dat verklaarde de Fin in gesprek met de krant Straits Times. Hij moet in oktober dan wel verkozen worden tot nieuwe president van de internationale autosportbond FIA.

Vatanen: De Formule 1 zal mij moeten vrezen. Het is een wanorde, nog niet zo lang geleden was er zelfs sprake van een afscheiding. Ik stel een nieuwe start voor om de komende vijf tot tien jaar de Formule 1 te ontwikkelen. Samen de Formule 1 opnieuw opbouwen op basis van gezond verstand, democratie, eerlijkheid en openheid is het devies.

Ik wil de Formule 1 en de andere takken van autosport op een gelijke manier behandelen. De FIA draait niet alleen om de Formule 1. De Formule 1 is de rijkste sport van de kapitalistische wereld, maar niet veel geld vloeit terug naar andere vormen van autosport. Dat is verkeerd.
