Geen Formule 1-debuut voor Sebastien Loeb in Abu Dhabi

Sebastien Loeb verschijnt niet aan de start van de Grand Prix van Abu Dhabi. De meervoudig rallykampioen stond volgens de geruchten in de belangstelling van Scuderia Toro Rosso, maar dat gaat niet door. Loeb wilde dinsdag duidelijkheid over de superlicentie en heeft het Formule 1-rijbewijs niet gekregen, zo liet een woordvoerder van zijn team Citroen weten.

In de Franse media is sceptisch op het nieuws gereageerd, met de suggestie dat geen enkel team een stoeltje aanbood aan Loeb of dat hij het uiteindelijk toch niet durfde op te nemen tegen de beste eenzitter-coureurs. Oud Formule 1-rijder Alain Prost vindt het in elk geval verstandig dat Loeb het niet doet. Op radiozender Europe 1 meldde de viervoudig wereldkampioen: Autosportfans waren benieuwd om te zien hoe Sebastien het zou doen, maar gezond verstand overwint. Sebastien is een groot kampioen en het zou zonde zijn om dat imago te verspelen. De twee disciplines verschillen enorm.
