Sponsor Virgin maakt na Abu Dhabi toekomstplannen bekend

Sponsor Virgin zat dit jaar voor een dubbeltje op de eerste rang bij kampioen Brawn GP. Toch lijkt het concern van Richard Branson zich voor volgend jaar niet te verbinden aan de Engelse renstal. De titel zorgt ook voor een verhoogde prijs bij Brawn GP. Virgin zou daarentegen in willen stappen bij het nieuwe team Manor Grand Prix.

Volgende maand wordt meer duidelijk over de toekomst van Virgin in de Formule 1. Branson vertelde aan BBC Radio Five Live: In onze wildste dromen kwam dit succes niet voor. Ik wist dat de auto goed was en ik wist ook dat de rijders top waren. Maar toen ik begin dit jaar in het vliegtuig naar Melbourne stapte met wat Virgin-stickers in mijn tas na wat handen schudden en geld overmaken was een dubbelzege in de race het laatste dat ik had verwacht.

We nemen na Abu Dhabi een besluit over wat we nu gaan doen. We stapten zeer graag in bij Brawn GP toen ze geen geld hadden om ze in staat te stellen om hun kwaliteiten tentoon te spreiden en ze zijn daar fantastisch mee om gegaan. Het was de perfecte samenwerking. Virgin steunt graag de underdog, maar nu zijn ze een van de duurste teams en absoluut niet de underdog meer. Volgende maand maken we bekend hoe onze toekomst eruit ziet, nu willen we gewoon dit geweldig succesvolle seizoen met Brawn GP vieren.

Virgin is lang in verband gebracht met het nieuwe team Manor GP.
Da\'s ook eigenlijk het enige wat je over Manor hoort.
Het laatste nieuws is echter dat de Britse bank Lloyds een aandeel in Manor wil gaan nemen.
Of dat is omdat Lloyds daar veel brood in ziet of omdat Manor nu al zonder geld zit en daarom een deel van de hut maar aan een bank verkoopt, da\'s nog even afwachten.
Of die deal door gaat - de Lloyds bank is onlangs met een hoop Brits belastinggeld gered, waardoor er veel kritiek is op deze actie - is nog even de vraag. Wanneer dat toch het geval is, kan ik me voorstellen dat Virgin niet instapt bij Manor. Virgin en Lloyds doen allebei iets met verzekeringen, dus samen participeren in Manor is dan wellicht een beetje raar...

Brawn Gp wil een langdurige verbintenis met Canon en veder ik weet eerlijk gezegt niet wat ik van Manor moet denken je hooort er niks van en het zou zo maar kunnen zijn dat Virgin bij Brawn Gp blijft
