Hamilton: "Button is een waardige en geweldige kampioen"

McLaren-coureur Lewis Hamilton stond zijn wereldtitel dit jaar af aan een landgenoot. Jenson Button gaf Groot-Brittannië de tweede Formule 1-kampioen op een rij. Hamilton gunt het de Brawn GP-coureur. De wereldkampioen van 2008 heeft op zijn website lovende woorden over voor zijn opvolger.

Hamilton: Jenson weet dat ik het hele jaar voor hem was en ik heb hem gefeliciteerd. Ik zeg al maanden dat hij een waardige kampioen zou zijn en ik denk dat hij een geweldige ambassadeur voor de sport zal zijn. Mooi dat de titel nog een jaar in Groot-Brittannië blijft en ik hoop volgend jaar met Jenson uit te maken wie dan het kampioenschap wint om er zeker van te zijn dat de titel in Groot-Brittannië blijft.

We willen allebei ons thuisland trots maken en daar is Jenson dit jaar ruimschoots in geslaagd. Hij won zes races en hield ten alle tijden de controle over zichzelf. Hij was van toegevoegde waarde voor Brawn GP en hij vormt een geweldige kampioen. Ik ben trots op hem en zijn team en verwacht dat hij in Abu Dhabi er een echte race van maakt nu de druk van zijn schouders is.
