Bulgarije schrapt plannen voor een Formule 1-race

Bulgarije koestert niet langer de wens om een Formule 1-race te organiseren. De overheid doet financieel geen duit in het zakje en was alleen bereid om de grond waar het circuit had moeten komen te leveren. En dat is niet genoeg voor de Bulgaarse autosportbond.

Voorzitter daarvan is Bogdan Nikolov. Hij meldt in de krant Sofia Echo: Aan het einde van wat mogelijk ons succesvolste jaar ooit was moeten we alle activiteiten stop zetten en de federatie sluiten. De bond kan niet in leven gehouden worden door leningen die ik persoonlijk verstrek. Ik moet ook rekeningen en leningen afbetalen. Ik heb zelfs een deel van mijn bezittingen verkocht om de boel draaiende te houden. Zonder de overheid lukt het niet en ik geloof niet dat ze hun standpunt nog zullen wijzigen.
