Gascoyne: "Wij maken het verschil met ons aerodynamicaprogramma"

Lotus F1 Racing heeft een duidelijk doel voor het debuutseizoen voor ogen. De andere nieuwe teams US F1, Manor Grand Prix en Campos Meta Team dienen verslagen te worden. Technisch directeur Mike Gascoyne is echter hoopvol dat meer mogelijk is.

Aan Autosport liet hij weten: Het risico bestaat dat je volgend jaar een groepje achterliggers krijgt, maar wij zullen daar niet bij horen. Ons doel is om dicht de gevestigde orde op de hielen te zitten. De Formule 1 was dit jaar zeer competitief met een heel veld binnen anderhalve seconde en ik hoop dat wij daar niet ver van verwijderd zijn. Wat de andere nieuwe teams doen zien we dan wel.

Duidelijk is dat de andere nieuwe renstallen verslaan ons eerste mikpunt is, hoewel we drie maanden later dan hun begonnen zijn. Met die teams worden we vergeleken omdat we gebruik maken van dezelfde motor en versnellingsbak. Maar de Formule 1 drijft nog altijd op aerodynamica en op dat gebied zullen wij het verschil maken, al hebben we nog genoeg werk te doen.
