Donington Park-baas acht Grand Prix in 2010 nog steeds mogelijk

Donington Park-baas Simon Gillet legt zich niet neer bij het verlies van de Grand Prix voor 2010. Het financieringsplan voor de vereiste renovatie van het circuit viel in duigen, de baan kwam onder curatele te staan en het Grand Prix-contract werd verbroken. Gillet gooit de handdoek echter niet in de ring, een investeerder zou toch voor een Formule 1-race op Donington Park kunnen zorgen.

Daar is wel negentig miljoen pond voor nodig. Vijftig miljoen pond om het circuit gereed te maken voor een race in 2010, de andere veertig miljoen pond om de renovatie voor 2011 te voltooien. Gillet liet Autosport weten: Volgend jaar is nog steeds mogelijk, al is het constructiewerk dan nog niet helemaal af. Alleen de essentiële dingen voor een race zoals de pits, race control en de baan doen we dan en daar hebben we nog genoeg tijd voor.

De beslissing moet echter wel snel genomen worden en dit is een goede mogelijkheid voor iemand. Waar ter wereld kan je een Grand Prix kopen? Hier wel, in potentie. Als iemand rondloopt met het geld om dit te kunnen doen, dan is dit een unieke kans om de Britse Grand Prix te stelen. En Silverstone is niet van plan om voor één jaar in te stappen, dus moeten we de race voor 2010 veiligstellen. Niemand, zeker ik niet, wil de Britse Grand Prix verloren zien gaan.
