Silverstone denkt aan nieuwe lay-out voor Britse Grand Prix

Silverstone overweegt om het nieuwe stuk circuit dat in aanbouw is voor de MotoGP-race van volgend jaar ook te gebruiken voor de Grand Prix van Groot-Brittannië. De nieuwe lay-out gaat bij Abbey rechtsaf in plaats van linksaf voor een lus over het middenterrein en keert na Priory terug op het huidige circuit. De bocht Bridge verdwijnt daarmee.

De internationale autosportbond FIA is in elk geval om goedkeuring gevraagd voor het zogenaamde Arena-gedeelte. Circuitdirecteur Richard Phillips: Er speelt veel op dit moment. De FIA heeft het gezien en we hebben een verzoek voor homologatie ingediend. We zijn hoopvol dat we dit nieuwe Arena-gedeelte komende zomer al in werking kunnen stellen. Maar het originele circuit hebben we ook nog, dus als het niet lukt nemen we gewoon de huidige lay-out.
