Formule 1 krijgt nadrukkelijke advies om meer met internet te doen

Prominenten hebben op het Motor Sport Business Forum in Monaco de Formule 1 gewezen op de mogelijkheden van internet en nieuwe media. Lotus F1 Racing-teambaas Tony Fernandes en potentiële Renault-koper Gerard Lopez zijn van mening dat de koningsklasse het risico loopt achter te raken op andere sporten.

Lopez: De teams kunnen de sport dichter bij de teams brengen. De sport en de omgeving zijn gedwongen om te veranderen. De meeste uitzendcontracten zijn gebaseerd op de stand van zaken van 20, 25 jaar geleden. Feit is dat over drie, vier jaar tijd de meeste mensen in veel landen het niet meer zullen volgen via de televisie, maar via internet.

Dat herdefinieert de onderhandeling over contracten en de manier van verspreiding volledig. Je kan internetpubliek niet controleren op de manier dat je televisiepubliek kan controleren. De muziekindustrie heeft dezelfde ontwikkeling meegemaakt. Je dient nieuwe manieren te vinden om hier geld aan te verdienen, want dat houdt de sport levend.

Fernandes: Ik zie de toekomst zoals de Formule 1 die tegemoet kan gaan, mits goed geleid. Het is een massale sport die nog niet de hele wereld bereikt, via online. Ik verliet de muziekindustrie omdat die het internet niet wilde omarmen. Bij Time Warner zei ik al dat ze het internet moesten omarmen, anders zou de muziekindustrie kapot gaan.

Iedereen vindt me gek omdat ik in de Formule 1 stap, maar hier liggen geweldige mogelijkheden in het werken met online properties en mensen bereiken die voorheen nooit bereikt werden. De kans bestaat om er echt een globale sport, zoals voetbal is, van te maken. Het kan en ik denk dat we er daarom in geïnteresseerd in zijn.

Ik denk dat het zeker beter kan dan nu. Het is toch fantastisch als iedereen bijv de race vanuit oogpunt van zijn favo coureur kan volgen of zelf kan bepalen via welke camera\'s hij/zij wil kijken?

Indien betaalbaar zou ik zeker geintresseerd zijn in deze mogelijkheden.

Het valt me toch steeds meer op dat de onderwerpen en tekst van de artikelen min of meer gelijk zijn aan degene die op Autosport.com verschijnen.
