Klien onderhandelt met twee teams over racestoeltje

Christian Klien geeft de hoop op een rentree op de startopstelling van de Formule 1 voor dit jaar niet op. De Oostenrijker zag Sauber, het team waarvoor hij al enkele jaren testrijder is, de voorkeur aan de ervaring van Pedro de la Rosa geven. Klien claimt echter nog wat troeven achter de hand te hebben.

Ik was me bewust dat De la Rosa mijn grootste concurrent voor het stoeltje bij Sauber was. Dat de beslissing nu pas valt geeft voor mij aan dat het een moeilijke keuze was. Het betekent niet dat mijn kansen voor 2010 verkeken zijn. Gedurende 2009 ben ik door diverse teams benaderd en met twee renstallen ben ik momenteel serieus in onderhandeling.

Racen is het duidelijke doel voor 2010. Met alle testbeperkingen is de rol van testrijder tegenwoordig een stuk minder aantrekkelijk. Toch sluit ik een rol als testcoureur niet bij voorbaat uit. Vorig seizoen promoveerden niet minder dan vijf reserverijders naar een racezitje. Maar racen staat bovenaan de lijst en ik zie nog kansen om dat te bewerkstelligen, aldus Klien.
