Renault: "Petrov is niet de rijkste coureur waar we mee spreken"

Het team van Renault is nog altijd op zoek naar een teamgenoot voor Robert Kubica. Vitaly Petrov is een naam die daarbij steeds vaker valt. De Rus beschikt over een aardig sponsorbudget, maar dat is niet de enige reden dat de Franse renstal interesse in hem heeft, zo benadrukt teambaas Eric Boullier in gesprek met ESPN F1.

Ik kijk in eerste instantie naar talent, maar daarna neem ik ook de sponsormogelijkheden mee. Men zegt dat we Petrov alleen als kandidaat beschouwen vanwege zijn sponsorgeld, maar hij is niet de rijkste rijder waarmee we spreken. We mogen niet vergeten dat hij in 2009 tweede eindigde in de GP2. Hij beschikt over meer dan genoeg talent voor een Formule 1-stoeltje. Ik dien ook de bedrijfsstrategie in ogenschouw te nemen, we moeten punten scoren en dat is makkelijker met een ervaren coureur, besluit Boullier.
