De la Rosa: "Ik zal beter voor de dag komen dan men verwacht"

Pedro de la Rosa maakt dit jaar zijn rentree op de Formule 1-grid. De 38-jarige Spanjaard tekende een contract bij het team van Sauber. Net als bij de terugkerende Michael Schumacher reed hij eind 2006 zijn laatste Grand Prix. Over de comeback van Schumacher zijn veel mensen enthousiast, over De la Rosa is de buitenwacht sceptischer.

De Spanjaard gelooft echter in eigen kunnen. Ik zou hier niet zijn als ik zou denken dat ik het niet meer kan. Ik heb een enorme hoeveelheid motivatie. Ik werk hard. Dat is het belangrijkste op dit niveau, de honger om aan te vallen en elke dag werken alsof het je laatste dag is. Dus ja, ik heb wat nodig is. Hoe goed ik zal zijn? Dat zien we vanzelf. Ik geloof dat ik beter voor de dag kom dan wat men van mij verwacht. De winter is lang. We hebben vier weken van testen voor de boeg en daarin zal ik langzaam maar zeker op tempo komen.
