US F1 contracteert Jose Maria Lopez als coureur voor 2010

Het team van US F1 heeft eindelijk een coureur vast weten te leggen. De 26-jarige Jose Maria Lopez stapt in bij de Amerikaanse renstal en debuteert komend seizoen in de Formule 1. De Argentijn was in het verleden al eens testrijder voor het team van Renault.

Peter Windsor, sportief directeur bij US F1, legt de keuze voor Lopez uit: Jose Maria contracteren was al lange tijd een doel van ons. We volgen zijn loopbaan al sinds 2003, toen hij het Renault V6-kampioenschap domineerde. We vinden het geweldig om hem aan boord te hebben.

Hij is een echte professional en een geboren leider. Wat nog het meest over zijn karakter zegt is hoe hij met de teleurstelling dat hij na drie jaar testen nooit voor Renault mocht racen is omgegaan. Hij liet zijn koppie niet hangen, ging terug naar Argentinië en won 38 races en drie titels. Hij groeide uit tot ster en zijn land staat volledig achter hem.

Lopez: Dit is een gedenkwaardige dag voor mij, mijn familie en Argentinië. Ik werk al mijn hele leven naar deze dag toe en ik kan de leiding van US F1 niet genoeg bedanken. Natuurlijk krijgen we het als nieuw team moeilijk, maar ons doel is om elke race stappen te zetten en de fundering leggen waarop in de toekomst zeges en titels gewonnen kunnen worden.

Ik ken die hele kerel niet....

USF1 begon met veel mooie praatjes, maar ik ben bang dat het team het lachertje van de F1 gaat worden.

Ik reageer niet graag op USF1 berichten, want ik denk nog steeds dat heel veel wat zij verkondigen gebakken lucht is...Maar deze jongen is echt wel een snelle coureur (in de Zuid-Amerikaanse klassen), dus wel een positief punt. Maar eerlijk gezegd zal die 8 miljoen dollar voor USF1 nog iets belangrijker zijn ;)...
