Concorde Agreement verdwijnt meer naar de achtergrond

De Concorde Agreement speelt een steeds kleinere rol in de Formule 1. In het verleden legden de teams, de commerciële rechtenhouder FOM en de internationale in dat document de belangrijkste afspraken voor een periode vast. Maar dat verdwijnt steeds meer naar de achtergrond.

De oorzaak daarvoor is de oprichting van de Strategy Group, waarin de FOM, de FIA en zes renstallen zijn vertegenwoordigd. Die vergaderen op regelmatige basis met elkaar over alle onderwerpen met betrekking tot de Formule 1, waardoor de Concorde Agreement minder maatgevend is.

Bernie Ecclestone vertelde aan Christian Sylt van de Wall Street Journal: "Ik denk dat iedereen de Concorde Agreement een beetje vergeten is. De noodzaak is een beetje verdwenen door het ontstaan van de Strategy Group. Het diende als vredesakkoord, maar de hele structuur is nu anders."
