Ecclestone beticht promotor in India van contractbreuk

India keert voorlopig niet terug op de Formule 1-kalender omdat promotor Yaypee Sports niet voldaan heeft aan enkele voorwaarden in de verbintenis. Dat stelt Bernie Ecclestone tegenover persbureau IANS. De bureaucratie en strenge belastingwetgeving zijn slechts kleine factoren.

Ecclestone beticht Yaypee Sports van contractbreuk. "De promotor in India is niet in staat gebleken om het contract te honoreren en dat is vooral gerelateerd aan geld." Toch heeft de commerciële baas van de Formule 1 een zwak voor India. Hij probeert de problemen op te lossen.

"India is een van de weinige nieuwe locaties waar men de sport echt probeert te begrijpen. Daarom heb ik meer vertrouwen in India dan in China. De relatie met de promotor is ook nog steeds goed en het is onze intentie om de twee resterende jaren in het contract gewoon uit te dienen."

"Maar dat kan alleen als ze financiële garanties geven. Ik onderneem nog steeds pogingen om voor 2015 wat voor elkaar te krijgen, daar hebben we nog ongeveer twee maanden de tijd voor. Wij willen echt weer naar India gaan", aldus Ecclestone.
