Tactiek Pirelli niet ingegeven door angst voor kritiek

Bandenleverancier Pirelli kreeg vorig jaar een stortvloed aan kritiek over zich heen, maar dat was niet de reden voor de conservatieve keuzes met het oog op komend seizoen. Volgens de Italiaanse bandenfabrikant is het gewoon gezond verstand om op veilig te spelen terwijl zoveel andere parameters al veranderd zijn.

Pirelli-motorsportbaas Paul Hembery legt aan Spox uit: "Nee, we hebben deze beslissingen niet genomen uit angst voor kritiek. Het was pure logica, want zelfs nu weet niemand hoe de auto's met nieuwe motoren, meer gewicht en minder brandstof zich zullen gedragen met de banden. Het klopt dat onze geselecteerde compounds voor Australië wellicht wat voorzichtig zijn. Maar dat is omdat de teams vroeg in het seizoen al genoeg aan hun hoofd hebben. Op deze manier kunnen ze zich concentreren op hun programma's zonder zich zorgen te maken over de banden."
