Simona de Silvestro is waarschijnlijk niet de eerste vrouw in lange tijd die de Formule 1-grid haalt. De Zwitserse is sinds begin dit jaar als testrijder verbonden aan het team van Sauber. Blick bericht dat de kans dat ze ooit promotie maakt richting een racestoeltje niet meer dan 1 procent bedraagt.

De Silvestro moet sowieso Giedo van der Garde en Sergey Sirotkin voor zich dulden in de hiërarchie. Sauber beloofde bij haar aanstelling om haar fysiek en mentaal te prepareren met als doel om een superlicentie te behalen en een zitje in de Formule 1 voor 2015.

Blick stelt dat De Silvestro eind april haar testdebuut voor de Zwitserse renstal maakt. Zelf gelooft ze wel in haar kansen. "De Formule 1 is altijd mijn droom geweest. Als ik alles goed doe, dan heb ik een kans om die droom ooit te verwezenlijken."
