Peugeot begint in 2015 aan hernieuwd avontuur in Dakar

Peugeot keert volgend jaar terug in Dakar. Het Franse merk slaat de handen ineen met Red Bull en Total voor de ontwikkeling van de auto. Als coureurs zijn oud-winnaars Carlos Sainz en Cyril Despres aangesteld. De 2008 DKR wordt bij de autoshow in Beijing op 20 april tentoon gespreid.

Peugeot Sport heeft grote verwachtingen van Dakar 2015. "We zijn op de hoogte dat Dakar erg zwaar is, maar ons doel is om de race te winnen", zegt directeur Maxime Picat. Volgens de CEO geeft het evenement Peugeot wereldwijd bekendheid. "De race geniet veel bekendheid in Europa, maar ook in China en Zuid-Amerika."

Dakar is geen onbekend terrein voor Peugeot. Zo won het zelfs drie keer op rij in de jaren 1987, 1988 en 1989 met een 205 T16. Een jaar later was de eerste positie opnieuw voor Peugeot Sport, alleen reed het merk toen met de 405 Turbo 16. Alleen vond Dakar toen nog plaats in Afrika en nu in Zuid-Amerika.
