Duitse aanklagers trappen niet in chantage Ecclestone

Bernie Ecclestone lijkt een andere verklaring te moeten verzinnen voor de betaling van 44 miljoen dollar aan de Duitse bankier Gerhard Gribkowsky. De Brit beweerde dat het een afkoopsom was omdat Gribkowsky hem chanteerde met informatie over belastingontduiking.

Dat verhaal heeft de openbare aanklager in Duitsland onberoerd gelaten. Welt am Sonntag heeft het 223 pagina's tellende document voor de rechtszaak ingezien en daar is geen notie gemaakt van eventuele chantage. Volgens de aanklagers was de betaling aan Gribkowsky alleen bedoeld om Ecclestone aan de macht te houden in de Formule 1.

De rechtszaak trapt volgende week af. Ecclestone paaide de rechter alvast. "We gaan ons best doen om de sport te runnen terwijl deze zaak loopt. De rechter is wat dat betreft bereid om mee te denken, dat is goed. De zittingen vinden alleen op dinsdagen en woensdagen plaats. Dan kan ik in elk geval blijven doen wat ik doe", deelde hij aan Sky mede.
