Winst Formule 1 keldert door uitkeren van meer prijzengeld

De Formule 1 heeft vorig jaar een winst van 423 miljoen dollar geboekt. Dat zijn op zich mooie cijfers, maar de winst is wel met 137 miljoen dollar gedaald ten opzichte van 2012. De oorzaak daarvoor is de toename van het prijzengeld voor de teams. De elf renstallen mochten over 2013 in totaal 798 miljoen dollar verdelen. Dat is 6,1 procent meer dan het jaar ervoor.

Tevens betaalde FOM een hogere bijdrage aan de internationale autosportbond FIA, 40 in plaats van 30 miljoen dollar. Financieel directeur Duncan Llowarch deelde aan de Telegraph desalniettemin mede tevreden te zijn met de nieuwste cijfers. "Daarbij houden we rekening met de moeizame economische situatie in sommige landen die Grands Prix organiseren."

De Formule 1 heeft vorig jaar 21,8 miljoen dollar aan openstaande leningen afbetaald. Het moet echter nog 2,1 miljard dollar aflossen. Toch heeft Delta Topco besloten om 332 miljoen dollar aan dividend uit te keren. Eigenlijk wilde het de aandeelhouders nog rijker belonen, maar door de schulden en de rechtszaak tegen Bernie Ecclestone is daar van afgezien.
