Voormalig Ferrari-engineer Nigel Stepney overleden

Oud Ferrari-engineer Nigel Stepney is vrijdag om het leven gekomen bij een verkeersongeluk. Stepney werd slechts 56 jaar oud.

Stepney had veel ervaring in de koningsklasse van de autosport. De Brit werkte onder andere samen met Ayrton Senna en met Michael Schumacher, tijdens de glorietijd van Ferrari.

Stepney kwam ook verschillende keren in het nieuws. Zo werd de Brit ooit geschept door Michael Schumacher tijdens een pitstop, maar de meeste bekendheid verwierf Stepney als een van de hoofdrolspelers in het spionageschandaal in 2007.

Tot zijn dood was Stepney actief in de FIA GT1 en de Blancpain Endurance Series voor het team van JRM.
