Formule 1-promotors eens over noodzaak voor meer volume

De nieuwe V6 turbomotoren in de Formule 1 dienen op korte termijn meer geluid te produceren. Dat is de uitkomst van een onderling overleg tussen de Grand Prix-promotors. Ze waren het er unaniem over eens dat de sport meer volume nodig heeft om tot de verbeelding te blijven spreken.

Ron Walker van de Australische Grand Prix voert het woord voor de promotors. Aan Fairfax Media verkondigde hij: "We maken ons allemaal zorgen over het geluid van de nieuwe Formule 1. We kunnen niet wachten tot volgend jaar, er moet zo snel mogelijk wat aan gedaan worden."

"Daar is iedereen het over eens. We zitten in de entertainment business. De mensen op de tribunes geven niks om de reglementen. Ze willen een mooie show, agressie en gladiatoren op de baan zien. De regel dat rijders maar honderd kilo brandstof per race mogen gebruiken doet bezoekers niets. De kaartverkoop is al lastig genoeg door de concurrentie op de sportmarkt."
