Lotus niet bang om steun van PDVSA te verliezen

Het team van Lotus houdt geen rekening met het scenario dat PDVSA plotseling stopt met de sponsoring. Die donkere wolk hangt sinds vorige week boven de Britse renstal omdat de Venezolaanse overheid de geldkraan voor autosport dicht draait.

PDVSA is de nationale oliemaatschappij van Venezuela, maar opereert nog wel gedeeltelijk onafhankelijk. Daar gaat Lotus-eigenaar Gerard Lopez in elk geval van uit. De geldschieter die Pastor Maldonado trouw volgt heeft zelf nog geen uitsluitsel gegeven.

Lopez zegt in Blick: "PDVSA, net als Maldonado, blijft bij ons. In Venezuela heeft dit bedrijf zelf het laatste woord en niet de regering." PDVSA was voorheen sponsor van Williams en pompte daar jaarlijks meer dan 30 miljoen dollar in het Formule 1-team.
