Honda niet in de markt voor aandelen in McLaren

Honda is niet van plan om de aandelen van Mumtalakat in McLaren over te nemen. Die boodschap heeft de Japanse autofabrikant overgebracht op de Britse renstal. Honda had volgens Japanse media een oogje laten vallen op de 50 procent aandelen van Mumtalakat, een investeringsmaatschappij uit Bahrein.

Honda keert volgend jaar terug in de Formule 1 als motorleverancier van McLaren. Een rol als aandeelhouder ziet de Japanse autofabrikant (voorlopig) niet zitten. Bovendien is voor een overdracht van de aandelen toestemming van Ron Dennis en Mansour Ojjeh nodig.

Een woordvoerder van McLaren: "In tegenstelling tot de berichtgeving in de media heeft Honda ons mede gedeeld dat ze geen intentie hebben om zich in te kopen bij McLaren. De volledige focus van Honda is gericht op de ontwikkeling van de Formule 1-motor voor 2015."
