Renault zonder Caterham verder met Alpine sportauto

Renault heeft de Caterham Group uitgekocht bij het Alpine-project. Samen zouden ze het roemruchte merk nieuw leven in blazen, maar Renault heeft besloten om het heft volledig in eigen handen te nemen. De Franse autofabrikant nam de vijftig procent van de aandelen over van de Caterham Group en gaat op eigen houtje verder.

Met deze mededeling komt een einde aan een samenwerking die in november 2012 is gestart. Renault en de Caterham Group ontwikkelen nu ieder hun eigen sportwagens. Renault doet dat onder de noemer Alpine. De vraag is of dit verder gevolgen heeft voor de verhoudingen tussen de twee. Renault is in de Formule 1 als motorleverancier aan Caterham verbonden.
