Le Mans: Duval ongedeerd na horrorcrash in training

Loic Duval maakte gisteren tijdens de eerste vrije training een enorm zwaar ongeval mee. De Fransman verloor bij het ingaan van de Porsche-bochten de controle over zijn Audi bij 270 kilometer per uur. Hij knalde op hoge snelheid in de muur en van zijn auto was daarna weinig meer over. Duval ontsnapte vrijwel ongedeerd, hij had alleen wat schaafwonden.

Voor de zekerheid is hij vannacht wel ter observatie in het ziekenhuis gehouden. Duval was na zijn crash bij bewustzijn en maakt het naar omstandigheden goed, maar de artsen en Audi achten het niet verstandig om hem komend weekend te laten starten in de 24 uur van Le Mans. Zijn plek in de auto met startnummer 1 wordt ingenomen door Marc Gene.

Gisteravond vond ook de eerste kwalificatie plaats. Daarin was de Porsche van Brendon Hartley, Timo Bernhard en Mark Webber het snelst. De tweede plaats was ook voor Porsche, dat dit jaar weer een LMP1-project op de been heeft gebracht. Toyota en Audi gaven respectievelijk twee en drie seconden toe op de voorlopig snelste tijd. Vandaag staat nog een kwalificatiesessie op het programma.
