Marko: "Ferrari deed Newey een absurde aanbieding"

Dat Ferrari ontkende Adrian Newey gepolst te hebben voor een transfer naar Maranello krijgt nog een staartje. Red Bull-motorsportadviseur Helmut Marko beweert namelijk het tegenovergestelde. Ferrari heeft wel degelijk een poging gedaan om Newey los te weken bij Red Bull Racing.

Tevergeefs, aangezien Newey recent zijn contract bij Red Bull verlengde. Marko zei op Servus TV: "We hebben lange conversaties met Adrian gevoerd. Ferrari deed hem een absurde aanbieding. Dat geldt voor zowel het financiële plaatje als de verantwoordelijkheden die hij zou krijgen."

Newey ging niet in op de lokroep van Ferrari. In plaats daarvan verbreedt hij zijn horizon binnen Red Bull. Nogmaals Marko: "Adrian heeft openlijk toegegeven dat hij moe is. In de Formule 1 is steeds minder ruimte voor innovatie. Daarom openen we een technologiecentrum waar Adrian vrij zijn gang kan gaan. Daarnaast zal hij zich ook blijven inzetten voor de Formule 1-tak. Zo is hij nog volop betrokken bij de totstandkoming van de RB11."
