Heidfeld kandidaat voor voorzitterschap bij de GPDA

De Grand Prix Drivers Assosciation (GPDA) komt in Bahrein samen om een beslissing te nemen over hoe het verder moet. Sauber-coureur Pedro de la Rosa is nu nog de voorzitter, maar wil een stap terug doen omdat hij te weinig tijd heeft nu hij terugkeert als racecoureur. Mercedes GP-testrijder Nick Heidfeld is in beeld om de Spanjaard op te volgen.

De la Rosa deelde aan Autosport mede: Op vrijdag in Bahrein hebben we met de GPDA een vergadering. We vragen dan aan de GPDA-leden hoe ze verder willen. Persoonlijk wil ik dat iemand anders mijn rol overneemt. Ik heb het twee jaar gedaan en verandering zou gezond zijn. Er zijn jongens met meer tijd en we hebben een toegewijd iemand nodig. Ik ben tevreden met wat ik bereikt heb en nu is het tijd voor iemand anders. Ik laat het aan de leden over. Ik denk dat ze het met me eens zijn, maar laten we afwachten.

Over Heidfeld zegt De la Rosa: Hij zou absoluut een geweldige kandidaat zijn. Nick is intelligent en ervaren, dus waarom niet? Maar de leden beslissen. Ik sta overal open voor. Het kan dat ze me smeken om te blijven, dan weet ik het ook niet meer. Ik hoop niet dat het zover komt. Nick Heidfeld is een prima alternatief.
