Mercedes zet zich schrap voor meer animositeit tussen rijders

Het team van Mercedes stelt zich in op een intensere titelstrijd tussen Lewis Hamilton en Nico Rosberg nu het gat nagenoeg is gedicht. Rosberg viel in Silverstone uit terwijl Hamilton zegevierde, waardoor het verschil nog maar vier punten is. Mercedes zet zich schrap voor meer animositeit tussen de rijders, zoals eerder dit jaar in Monaco al tot uiting kwam.

Teampresident Niki Lauda: "In de tussenstand zijn we helemaal terug bij af, terug naar de situatie van voor de tweede uitvalbeurt van Lewis dit jaar in Canada. Vanaf nu is het gevecht om de titel weer helemaal open en zullen wij als teamleiding het zwaar krijgen om het allemaal in goede banen te leiden. Maar we grijpen niet in. Dat is heel belangrijk. Dat hebben we eerder dit seizoen ook niet gedaan, dus waarom zouden we ons er nu mee gaan bemoeien?"

Rosberg beleeft een vrij constant seizoen, bij Hamilton gaat het meer op en neer. "Dat overkomt iedereen wel eens. Neem Sebastian Vettel. Hij is viervoudig wereldkampioen en klaagt dit jaar steen en been. Na het aaneenrijgen van successen heeft hij het nu zwaarder. Zulke dingen gebeuren, daar moet je niet te zwaar aan tillen. De voorbije races zat het Nico allemaal mee en verging het Lewis net iets minder. Hamilton is nu terug op het juiste spoor, de komende races worden interessant", aldus Lauda.

Goede beslissing om niet in te grijpen. Ik zou zeggen wanneer de constructeurs titel in geding is dan leg je het onderlinge duel aan banden.

Aangezien dit geen probleem zal zijn, laat ze idd lekker vrij racen en het onderling duel samen uit vechten.

  Nou precies. Daar zitten ze wel altijd tussen, maar dat zien ze niet als "ingrijpen" denk ik dan. Dat is blijkbaar meer een verworven recht voor degene die op kop rijdt.

dan moeten ze voortaan ook ECHT niet meer ingrijpen. Voorheen werd wel gezegd dat ze elkaar mochten racen, maar intussen werd op de radio na een paar rondjes de angel eruit gehaald.
