Ecclestone: "De tijd is rijp voor een terugkeer naar Mexico"

De Grand Prix van Mexico keert volgend jaar officieel terug op de Formule 1-kalender. Dat is woensdag op een persconferentie bekend gemaakt. Het 4,4 kilometer lange circuit van Mexico City vormt de locatie voor de Mexicaanse Grand Prix in 2015.

De laatste Formule 1-race in Mexico dateert van 1992. Bernie Ecclestone verkondigde: "De tijd is rijp voor de Formule 1 om terug te keren naar Mexico en ik ben ervan overtuigd dat beide partijen hier nog jaren vruchten van gaan plukken. Ik kijk ernaar uit om een ieder volgend jaar bij dit globale evenement te verwelkomen."

Tavo Hellmund haalde eerder de Formule 1 naar Austin en is nu medeverantwoordelijk voor de rentree van Mexico op het schema. "Al sinds Bernie en ik met Austin begonnen was het ook een droom om de Formule 1 terug te brengen naar Mexico. Dit nieuws is dus al jaren in de maak, maar de puzzelstukjes vallen nu allemaal op de juiste plek. Dat doet me deugd."
