'Op Monza haalt men 360 kilometer per uur'

De snelheid op het circuit van Monza zou dit jaar wel eens erg hoog kunnen liggen. Dat is de mening van Nick Chester, technisch directeur bij het team van Lotus.

De nieuwe krachtbronnen en aerodynamische reglementen hebben ervoor gezorgd dat de rechtelijn-snelheid in 2014 hoger ligt dan vorig jaar. Op het circuit van Monza wordt gereden met speciale low downforce-onderdelen, waardoor het Volgens Chester mogelijk is om onder ideale omstandigheden 360 kilometer per uur te halen op de rechte stukken.

"het hangt af van de afstellingen waarmee men rijdt, maar ik verwacht dat de snelheid hoger zal zijn dan afgelopen jaar," aldus Chester. "Het kan mogelijk zijn om 360 kilometer per uur te halen op de rechte stukken, afhankelijk van het feit of men gebruik kan maken van het DRS-systeem."

De snelheid die de huidige auto's weten te produceren ligt nog altijd lager dan de V10-aangedreven bolides van weleer. Zo wist Juan-Pablo Montoya in 2005 met zijn McLaren MP4/20 met 372 kilometer per uur te rijden over het circuit van Monza.
