Todt en Ecclestone hopen dat Bridgestone toch doorgaat

In navolging van de Formule 1-teams hebben commerciële baas Bernie Ecclestone en FIA-voorzitter Jean Todt ook hun hoop dat bandenleverancier Bridgestone in de Formule 1 blijft geuit. De Japanse bandenfirma kondigde eind vorig jaar aan om na dit seizoen te stoppen.

Ecclestone in Auto Motor und Sport: "Het zou ons wel lukken om een geschikte vervanger te vinden, maar ik hoop dat ze hun beslissing nog herzien. Wij werken er aan." Todt voegde in de New York Times toe: "Het was een schok om te horen dat ze afscheid willen nemen van de Formule 1. Duurzaamheid en het milieu zijn belangrijke waarden voor Bridgestone. Wij zijn op dat vlak bezig om wijzigingen door te voeren, maar ik weet niet of het genoeg is om ze over te halen om toch te blijven."
