Kobayashi: "Soms betekenen contracten niets in de Formule 1"

Kamui Kobayashi is op dit moment de speelbal van Caterham. De Japanner werd in België aan de kant geschoven, maar mocht in Italië en nu in Singapore weer instappen. Of Kobayashi ook tijdens zijn thuisrace in Japan in de auto zit, is echter nog onduidelijk.

"Ik weet niet meer dan dat ik hier race," aldus Kobayashi in Singapore. Wanneer gevraagd naar zijn sponsorsituatie, antwoordde de Japanner: "Ik heb geen geld. Ik heb een contract tot het einde van het seizoen, maar soms betekenen contracten niets in de Formule 1. Dat is geen verrassing voor me."

Om weer aanspraak te maken op een Formule 1-stoeltje, heeft Kobayashi een sponsor nodig: "Ik heb gesprekken gevoerd, maar het is niet zo gemakkelijk," aldus de Japanner. Geruchten verbonden de Kobayashi afgelopen week aan de terugkeer van Honda, maar de Caterham-coureur zelf weet nergens iets vanaf: "Ik ben niet verbonden aan Honda. Op dit moment verandert hun komst niets voor me."

"Ik ken wel wat mensen daar, maar ik denk niet dat ik er iets over kan zeggen, want zij zijn betrokken bij een compleet ander project." Kobayashi werd ook gelinkt aan een terugkeer naar de endurance-racerij voor Ferrari, maar de Japanner heeft hier geen oren naar: "Nee, mijn doel is om in de Formule 1 te blijven. Ik ben realistisch, Formule 1 is economisch gezien erg lastig tegenwoordig."

"Ik weet niet hoeveel teams volgend jaar nog bestaan." Het is mogelijk dat er teams gaan verdwijnen, maar de geruchten dat de topteams een auto extra gaan inzetten ziet Kobayashi wel zitten. "Ik mag het idee wel. Het zou voor mij een kans kunnen zijn," besluit de Japanner.

  Ja, lijkt me geweldig want ik mag Koba wel en hij heeft in het verleden laten zien dat hij voor niets en niemand bang is of uit de weg gaat.
